Science Films Festival 2016

Organized by Goethe-Institut (GI) in partnership with the Planetarium Science Center (PSC) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), the Science Film Festival is back for the third consecutive year with the promise of more family-friendly activities to open young people’s eyes on the marvels of science.
The Film Festival in Egypt will be during the period of 29 November – 20 December 2016. The program of the festival runs each day from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm and includes various activities such as workshops on MATERIAL SCIENCE, science shows by the Planetarium Science Center, planetarium shows and many more. In an effort to expand the beneficiary population of the Science Film Festival 2016, the three partners will host the program at their premises. To maximize the geographical coverage of Alexandria governorate, the program will run at the BA, GI and schools in Alexandrina during the period of 29 November till 11 December 2016. ASRT will then host the program on 13-18 December 2016, at its discovery centers in Tanta, Cairo, Sohag, and El-Wadi El-Gadid. Hence, reaching out to other governorates including remote upper Egypt.

The organizers have lined up a host of exciting experiments and workshops that are based on basic principles tackled in the selected scientific films for visitors to participate in. The films and events are registration-based and free to attend.

The Science Film Festival is a celebration of science communication in Southeast Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, produced by the Goethe-Institut, Germany´s Cultural Institute operating worldwide. In cooperation with local partners it promotes science literacy and facilitates awareness of contemporary scientific, technological and environmental issues through the medium of film and television content. It presents films that explain scientific issues accessibly and entertainingly to a broad audience. The festival selection demonstrates that science can be communicated in an educational, as well as entertaining manner through audio-visual media. The festival has grown considerably since its inception in 2005, becoming the largest event of its kind worldwide.
