NASA's Cassini spacecraft recently imaged Enceladus, Saturn's volcanic moon. The image shows the giant plume of icy particles, emanating from the moon's southern polar regions.
Enceladus (505 km across) shines as a slender crescent. The complex structure of the plume is clearly visible.
The image was taken in visible light with Cassini's narrow-angle camera on 24 April 2007. The spacecraft was approximately 188,000 km from Enceladus. Image scale is 1 km per pixel.
