Biology Enzymes

From: 19 August 2007 To: 23 August 2007 Age Group: 6 -16 years

Enzymes are proteins that help speed up chemical reactions in the human body. Enzymes are important molecules in biology, without them, many of the important life processes could not happen.

This workshop helps explain the facts related to this subject.

The workshop takes place twice a day, at 10:00 am and at 12:00 pm.

Zoom Earth

From: 19 August 2007 To: 23 August 2007 Age Group: 10 -16 years

Satellites capture images that differ according to the type of light waves reflected by different elements on Earth, using equipment that is very sensitive to visible and invisible light. By analyzing the images provided by the satellites, professionals get the information they need to better monitor and study Earth.

Satellites travel very fast around Earth and they are able to observe oceans, mountains, coastlines, forests, agricultural land, towns, …etc; and monitor the Earth on a permanent basis, within a short time.
Attached to satellites are special instruments called radiometers. These receive sunlight reflected by different elements on Earth; they use the different types of light waves, which are invisible to human eyes, to form accurate images of the different elements.

This workshop explains through hands-on activities about satellites and their application in learning scienctific facts about Earth.

The workshop takes place twice a day, at 10:00 am and at 12:00 pm.

Duration: 90 Minutes

Language: Arabic - English

Kinder Garden

From: 19 August 2007 To: 23 August 2007 Age Group: 6 -16 years

Cooking and kitchen activities can be an educational experience with a variety of interesting facets. These activities can help grow social skills through cooperative learning and sharing within small groups. These activities also provide scientific knowledge of melting, mixing, dilution, concentration, and colors; as well as mathematical knowledge of quantities, weights, classification, order, sequence, fraction, and time conception.

The workshop takes place twice a day, at 10:00 am and at 12:00 pm.

Duration: 90 Minutes

Language: Arabic - English

Brain Teasers

From: 12 August 2007 To: 16 August 2007 Age Group: 6 -16 years

The brain is not a passive recipient of knowledge. In order to learn new information the brain must be able to focus on important cues and hold them in its short-term memory. The objective of this workshop is to help children exercise their brains with puzzles, logic as well as strategy games to sharpen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The workshop takes place twice a day, at 10:00 am and at 12:00 pm.

Duration: 90 Minutes

Optics is the science and technology of light.

Optics are also the tools we use with light. Our eyes are natural optics that allow us to see light. We also make optics to help us see better: eyeglasses, magnifying glasses, binoculars, telescopes, microscopes, and cameras. Also the lasers and lamps used in television sets, computer monitors and projectors that show motion pictures are all examples of optics.

This workshop helps explain these different aspects of optics.
