A Bright Sun Halo over the BA Conference Center

On 16 January 2008, a bright Sun halo shone over Alexandria, Egypt. The dazzling spectacle lasted for several hours. Observing from the BA Plaza, BA Senior Astronomy Specialist, Aymen Ibrahem, took numerous interesting images of the Sun halo.
Halos are observed when high clouds veil or pass near the Sun. Halos are formed due to refraction and reflection of sunlight in the tiny ice crystals contained in the high clouds. Halos often glow in red or pale yellow, but sometimes they show a spectrum, closely similar to the rainbow.
Ibrahem took images showing the beautiful palm trees of the BA as foreground objects. Some of his photos are presented in the picture gallery below.
