Pandemic Swine Flu H1N1 Videoconference at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

In collaboration with Senghor University, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Planetarium Science Center will be hosting a videoconference about H1N1 "Pandemic Swine Flu". The videoconference will be on Tuesday, 9 February 2010, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the BA Auditorium.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosted the Secretariat Office of the Arab Network for Women in Science and Technology (ANWIST) on 3 February 2010. The purpose of ANWIST is to build on their individual and collective capacity to promote the role of Women in Science and Technology in the Arab World.


The International Year of Astronomy 2009 Comes to an End!

The International Year of Astronomy came to an end. However, this could not have happened without a prestigious meeting in Padua, Italy. The meeting was held on 9-10 January 2010, where some of the Single Points of Contact (SPOCs) participating countries were invited to present activates organized in their countries during the year.


Solar Eclipse over Alexandria

15 January 2010
On 15 January 2010, a partial solar eclipse was visible in the Egyptian skies, in the early morning hours. In Alexandria, the eclipse started exactly with sunrise, at 7:00 a.m., and lasted two hours. The PSC organized a public observing session, to observe the celestial showpiece, from the Plaza of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.


Mid-Year Program for School Students at the BA Planetarium Science Center

The BA Planetarium Science Center would like to inform you that registration for the midyear program for school students will be from 10-24 January 2010, from 10:00 am till 2:30 pm, all weekdays except Fridays, at the Planetarium entrance.


International Year of Biodiversity at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

The United Nations declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on Earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. On this occasion, the Planetarium Science Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina will organize a series of programs and events.


Arab Astronomers

The International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA 2009) is a global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO to help people of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky. The aim of the Year is to stimulate worldwide interest, especially among young people, in astronomy and science.


Bibliotheca Alexandrina Chess Competiton for School Students

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Planetarium Science Center organized the BA Chess Competition for school students from 2-5 December 2009. That was in cooperation with the Egyptian Chess Federation, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Education, and supported by the "Future Protectors" assosiation, which is a non-governmental and non-profit organization, in order to promote this sport within a wide range of age groups and to attract and encourage a large number of students to practice it.


"Digital Technologies and the Diffusion of Scientific Culture"; a Lecture by Fabio Bevilacqua and Lidia Falomo, Department of Physics “A.Volta”, University of Pavia

Within the year-long celebration of the Egypt-Italy Science Year EISY2009, and on the occasion of hosting Volta's exhibition, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Planetarium Science Center will be welcoming Fabio Bevilacqua and Lidia Falomo, Department of Physics “A.Volta”, University of Pavia, who will give a lecture on the great Italian scientist "Alessandro Volta" entitled "Digital Technologies and the Diffusion of Scientific Culture". The lecture will be at 11:30 am at the Auditorium.


Volta Exhibition

The BA’s celebration of the EISY 2009 concludes with the Volta exhibition, which comprises replicas of original experiments conducted by Alessandro Volta, this outstanding scientist who is credited for the greatest contribution in the invention of electricity, one of the most significant scientific accomplishments that marked a turning point in both the scientific and social domains of life on Earth almost like no other. The exhibition will be on display at the BA from 9 November till 3 December 2009.
