- Visiting Professor, University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan, (1977).
- Professor, Michigan State University, E.Lansing, Michigan, USA (1977-79).

Served concurrently as consultant to:
i) World Bank, Washington, D.C. (1978-1979).
ii) The U.S. Department of Energy/Rockwell International. (1979) on hazardous and nuclear waste.
iii) The U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, Hanover, New Hampshire, USA as a Senior Research Scientist and Manager to a joint University project (1978).

Service with the United Nations Organization (1979- 1998)
• Senior Soil Scientist, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), September 1979-1988.
• Principal Adviser on Environmental Planning and Development, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), from early 1988 to April 1992.
• Chief Environment Adviser, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) of the United Nations, May 1992 till retirement in 1998.

From 1999 to 2004, served on the Board of Trustees of The 6th of October University (Egypt's first and largest private University), as well as on the University’s Steering Committee.

Between early 2002 and late 2004 served as Principal Adviser to the Minister on multilateral cooperation, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Egypt.

From 2004 – Present : Consultant on Development and Environment Issues.
