Eltayeb, Ibrahim AbdelRazzak

  Professor Ibrahim A. Eltayeb was educated in government schools in Sudan. He was awarded a scholarship to study in the United Kingdom. He graduated with a B.Sc. (Special), First Class Honours in mathematics from the University of London in1968 and obtained his Ph.D form the University of Newcastle – Upon –Tyne in 1972. He joined the university of Khartoum as a lecturer and was promoted to professor in 1980. He was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences (1982-1984) and in 1986 he moved to the Sultan Qaboos University where he established the department of Mathematics and Computing (1988-1998).
Professor Eltayeb has more than 50 publications in reputable journals. He was elected Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences in 1986, the Royal Astronomical Society of London in 1988 and TWAS in 1996. He was the recipient of the mathematics prize for TWAS in 1995. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) for 1991-1999 and Chairman of the Scientific Division I of IAGA on internal fields and secular variations for 1999-2003. He was a founding member of the Council of the Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior (SEDI) for 1987-present and sat on the Awards Committee for Mathematics International Prize of the TWAS (1998-2006).
