Al-Shamlan, Ali Abdullah

Dr. Ali Al Shamlan is a professor at Kuwait university, Kuwait. He received his B.S. Degree in Geology in 1967 from University of Puget Sound, USA, M.S. Degree in Geology in 1971 from University of Texas at El Paso, USA, and Ph.D. Degree in Geology in 1973 from University of Kuwait, Kuwait. He also received an Honorary Ph.D. Degree from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA. USA in 2001. He is a former Minister of Higher Education – Kuwait (1988-1992). He served as Assistant Dean (1978 – 1982) and Dean (1982 – 1984) of Faculty of Sciences, Kuwait University. He is a former Chairman of Geology Department, Kuwait University (1975 – 1978). He has been the Director General of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences since 1985 till present date. He published eleven Scientific Papers, one geological book and supervised a thesis at master degree level. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists, of The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), of the Council of the Islamic Foundation for Sciences, Technology and Development, of the Higher Council of Traffic, Ministry of Interior, Kuwait and of the International Academy of Information, Russia.
He is also a member of the board of trustees of Gulf University for Science & Technology, Kuwait, of Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Oxford University, United Kingdom and of Princess's School of Traditional Arts, United Kingdom.
He is Vice President of the Arab Academy of Sciences, Beirut, Lebanon & of the The Academy of Sciences of the Developing World (TWAS).
