Every February, since 2008, those interested in visual arts gather at the “AGENDA” Exhibition to see various harmonious artworks by artists of different ages, experiences, countries, and cultural backgrounds. They showcase their experiences and ideas in paintings and sculptures. For eight years, these artists have communicated at this meeting point at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. “Meter × Meter: A Free Space for Creativity” is the title of this year's round, and it refers to the space allocated to each artist to present their artistic experience.

This 6th round of the Biennale resumes the footsteps of previous ones. It is concerned, in particular, with the Miniature “Artist’s Book”, the dimensions of which do not exceed 15 × 15 × 15 cm. It is an attempt to explore the artists’ creativity in this field on this small scale, emphasizing that creativity, technical skill, and authentic expression are the most important values in an artwork, which is not necessarily linked to the greatness of the artwork’s size.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Biennale for the Artist’s Book is an event of distinctive nature and unique orientation, cherished by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA). It was first held in 2002 with regular rounds to this date, and here we are celebrating together its seventh round. Since the very beginning, the arts were man’s first means of documentation, recording, and chronicling. Methods of using art with text grew and varied especially after the emergence of printing. Creativity developed in form and content throughout the ages up to the modern, contemporary age, where artists are tackling the concept of the “artist’s book” with the help of current widespread technologies in the world of visual art, and where there is also a huge diversity of topics and ideas that spur the creative imagination. Thus, the BA aims to introduce the public to these concepts through the International Biennale for the Artist’s Book. This year we invited thirty Egyptian and foreign artists.
