Abstract: The research examines the informal factors that influence pastoralist women‘s access to elective political leadership at local government level in Northern Keyna. This study, which was carried out in the districts of Samburu, Marsabit, and Isiolo, focuses on family relations, social groupings and political affiliations. The major findings are that pastoralist women are constrained by informal political processes and social pressures, which influence their ability to achieve political office.
