Abstract: The Wildlife Division of the Ghana Forestry Commission, along with SNV and other partners, has developed an Action Plan to halt the destruction of Kalakpa Resource Reserve and help its residents to improve community livelihoods through sustainable ecotourism. The Action Plan will relocate illegal residents to new communities outside the reserve, provide residents with training in sustainable livelihoods, protect Kalakpa’s resources and develop infrastructure and tourism facilities. The scale of the project is formidable, but further inaction would result in even greater cost and complexity as the human population continues to grow and their source of livelihood disappears. The plan now needs funding support.
