The impact of the IICD health projects

Abstract: After a brief overview of how ICT can strengthen the health care sector, the monitoring and evalution results of IICD supported health projects in Burkina Faso, Mali, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia are reviewed, and the main lessons learned from these projects are summarized. Projects included: (1) support for ICT policy development for the health sector; (2) information and data management for continuing medical education; (3) district health management information systems; (4) development of a health management system; (5) integrated patients monitoring; (6) an integrated blood donor data base management system; (7) promoting continuous medical education among rural health workers by use of ICT; (8) web portal services; (9) modular strategic implementation of ICT in health care facilities; and (10) information and communication centres at nurses association offices.
