Abstract: This article was compiled from interviews and conversations conducted during the Following Footsteps tracer studies workshop, Jamaica, April 2002. Here we look at four examples that can help us to understand the relationships between the original programme, the choices that were made about how to conduct a study, decisions about what elements to include in it, and the impact that could be made on policy.
