Abstract: Climate change and its negative impact on many of the world’s numerous ecosystems is an unfortunate reality facing our planet today. Indigenous peoples in particular are the most vulnerable to the harsh developments of climate change due to the fact that they are already marginalized in their societies, lacking the resources needed to effectively cope with the many obstacles to their continued survival. Recognizing this fact the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) seventh session’s final report highlighted the necessity for the need to combine the current and historical knowledge of indigenous peoples with the scientific analysis of climate change in order to create effective adaptation strategies.
