Abstract: The HIV and AIDS pandemic is negatively affecting people in Africa as a whole and in sub-Saharan Africa in particular. According to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), one adult in 16 in the region is living with HIV. In some African countries, the number of people living with HIV is as high as one adult in three. Despite these statistics, people with disabilities remain marginalised and excluded from HIV information, education and communication (IEC). They are also often left out of treatment, care and support programmes.
