McMahon and Collins have looked at the relationship between usual diastolic blood pressure and the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke in a meta-analysis of prospective epidemiological population studies. They found a similar log-linear relationship, with the risk of coronary heart disease increasing by 25% for every 6mmHg increase in usual diastolic blood pressure, and a 40% increase in the risk of stroke for the same difference in blood pressure. |
