The Seattle Longitudinal Study, I could talk for two hours
about it. There is so much on it, I just picked a few things to mention. And at the bottom
of the screen you will see Schaie’s pretty recent book on Adult Intellectual
Development: The Seattle Longitudinal Study. There is a great reference if you want to
learn all about it because there is so much detail that it really deserves its own book.
The Seattle Longitudinal Study began in 1956. He moved in about 1981 to Penn State with
his wife Sherry Willis. They have followed over 5000 adults longitudinally; they tend to
go in seven year waves, I believe. And they have the longitudinal data on intellectual
change and they also have cross-sectional work on some kind of intellectual training or
cognitive intervention that they have tried in a variety of ways since the mid 1980’s. |
