Al Kasr- Reading a city through Foundation Texts

90 L.E.

Author: Saad Abd El Kerim Shihab

This book is the first general foundational reference containing the writings and inscriptions of “Al- Kasr” town. It also documents the history of this important area and highlights the importance of using the Arabic calligraphy character, especially after the extinction of a number of inscriptions located on private houses’ lintels.

The inscriptions of Al- Kasr have unique features in the Arabic calligraphy, especially in Thuluth script. The book is divided in 2 sections: the first section documents civil foundation texts on the lintels of houses, portals and mills. While the second section of the book contains foundation texts on tombs and mausoleums.
