The Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company (THSC) is a music theater production company aimed at exploring the social, cultural and linguistic parallels between the works of William Shakespeare and that of modern day Hip-Hop artists.

Founded in 2008 by MOBO award-winning UK Hip Hop artist Kingslee “Akala” Daley  with the support of Arts Council England, THSC officially launched in February 2009 with a workshop in East London hosted by Akala and special guest co-host: British Shakespearean theatre legend and Hollywood film actor Sir Ian McKellen.

Since then, THSC’s popularity has led to Akala appearing twice on BBC’s Newsnight Review, both as a guest panelist and to perform Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 18” (live on-air), with THSC featuring on BBC News/BBC Worldwide, Channel 4, CNN, MTV, Sky Arts, ITV2, London Tonight (ITV), London Metro, The Independent, The Guardian and numerous other high-profile media outlets.
