Strong Thunderbolts over Alexandria

The photo was obtained by Aymen Ibrahem, on 5 December 2006.

 

On Tuesday, 5 December 2006, a powerful thunderstorm raged in Alexandria, Egypt. The storm lasted from about 15:00 GMT to 21:00 GMT.

 

Strong thunderbolts blazed in the sky of Alexandria for over 6 hours. Dazzling lightning occurred vigorously in rainy clouds, about 1 km above the ground.

 

The day before, 4 December 2006, there was a rainstorm, and a mild tornado swirled over Alexandria, in the afternoon.

Dazzling Thunderbolts

Mr. Aymen Ibrahem, Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), Senior Astronomy Specialist, observed the entire storm, and photographed many thunderbolts, from the Plaza of the BA. One of his pictures was kindly published by an international publisher.
