"Ottoman Inscriptions in Algeria"

Ottoman Rule in Algeria lasted from 1516 until 1532, some 314 years. Algiers was a frontier “eyalet” with greqt authonomy. Ottoman authorities and notabels in Algiers have made many charitabel foundations like mosques, fountains, madrasas, casernes and frotifaction works. In most of these works inscriptions were placed. From these inscriptions we can read many deatils about the Ottoman rule and socila life in Algeria. A Survey of Inscriptions from Algeria was published more than 100 years ago in 2 volumes in 1901-1902. A volume on Departement d’Alger was published 1901 by Gabriel Colin, the second part Departement de Constantine was published by Gustave Mercier in 1902. I have recently published my Book on Ottoman isncriptions on Algeria. In this book some 216 Inscriptions are analyzed. In this contribution i would like to draw some conclusions about the context and frame of inscriptions from Ottoman Algeria
