  Abstract

A Decade of Product Development Partnerships (PDPs) as Catalysts of Product Innovation for Neglected Diseases
Product development partnerships (PDPs) are a class of public-private partnerships that focus on pharmaceutical product development for diseases of the developing world. The challenges of developing health products for neglected diseases in the absence of profit opportunity has led to the emergence of push and pull incentives both from the private and philanthropic sectors – but with the benefit of a decade of experience the PDPs can be seen as the most successful of these experiments. Indeed the success of the PDPs is such that it has created a very large development funding gap. The presentation will review this area and discuss possible ways forward given the current funding gap.
