“North and South” program has concluded its journey on Wednesday the 11th of March, 2015 at the Bibliotheca Alexandria. The journey, which started on the 20th of February 2015, lasted for a period of 21 days and extended from Alexandria to Cairo, and finally to Luxor and Aswan before heading back to Alexandria.

“North and South” is regarded one of the main activities implemented under Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt; a program co-funded by the European Union and executed by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The activity, which took the form of a creative journey that visited a number of the Egyptian governorates, aims to nurture new emerging talents and encourage them to interact with Egypt’s rich and diverse culture. It managed to link history, antiquities and arts in Egypt, and to encourage youth to seek inspiration from Egypt’s rich historical and cultural background.

The program included 100 young Egyptians, aged 18 – 34 years from both genders and from all over Egypt. They were divided into 5 groups, with each focusing on one form of art. Whilst participants embarked on the journey and were exposed to the Egyptian historical heritage, each group was also asked to produce artworks inspired by what they had encountered using the art form they were working on.

The journey was launched from Alexandria, where participants spent three days. It then passed through Cairo, where participants spent four days. This was followed by a Nile cruise, which lasted for seven days and was concluded with visits to Luxor and Aswan. The entire journey was concluded in Alexandria, where participants spent six days to complete and submit their artworks, which were also evaluated by experts. Furthermore, an exhibition of the participant’s creative works will be displayed during the final conference of the program Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt.
