Dear Friends,

So, how often do you have some really good material to teach but really wish to give it in Arabic? To serve the MENA Region best, the Diabetes Supercourse Team has thought of bridging this gap by translating some of our lectures into Arabic. We have started with the Nigel Paneth course, Introduction to Epidemiology and have completed the translation of the first five lectures:

1.1 Introduction to Epidemiology (Arabic)

Nigel Paneth

Translation by: Nessrine El-Nimr

1.2 Disease Transmission and Context (Arabic)

Nigel Paneth

Translation by: Nessrine El-Nimr

1.3 Categorization and Classification of Health States (Arabic)

Nigel Paneth

1.4 Population Sampling (Arabic)

1.5 Measures of Disease Frequency (Arabic)

If you see a lecture that you can make better use of, if it were translated; please send us, and we will formulate a priority list of lectures for translation. Our complete list is now 138 lectures; to view it, please click here.

We are counting on YOU to help us enlarge this pool of diabetes knowledge. An interesting presentation in a past conference, a valuable lecture you gave to your students, a presentation summary of a paper you submitted for publishing, or the dissertation presentation which earned you your degree; each one of those would be a great contribution and would help deliver your message to a wider scope of diabetes stakeholders. Kindly send your PowerPoint presentations to Fayrouz.Ashour@bibalex.org.

“The world of knowledge takes a crazy turn when teachers themselves are taught to learn.” Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956)

The backbone of our Diabetes Supercourse Project is obviously education which will always be recognized as a key component in the prevention and management strategies of diabetes. Acknowledging the importance of diabetes education, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation will be holding The 9th International Touring Education Workshop on The Basic Principles in Education Methodology for Diabetes Educators. This two-day workshop is designed to empower health care professionals and trainers with the various teaching skills necessary to educate and motivate diabetic patients to improve their lifestyle and make informed choices about their diabetes. This follows a series of very successful workshops that were conducted in Egypt, Syria, Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, and Sudan during the past two years. For more information, please click here.

We would like to remind all members that we would like to share our first 100 lectures with all interested organizations in the MENA Region. If your organization is interested in receiving these CDs, or if you are interested in helping us distribute them in your country to the various diabetes stakeholders, please contact Fayrouz.Ashour@bibalex.org. This CD is a gift that is meant to be given, meaning that we would like to ask those of you who will receive it to distribute the CDs to at least five others.

Please pass this on to your friends!

Thanks,

Diabetes Supercourse Team
