Dear Friends,

Education will always be recognized as a key component in the prevention and management strategies of diabetes. Acknowledging the importance of diabetes education, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation hosted The 9th International Touring Education Workshop on Training Diabetes Educators to Acquire Expertise in Basic Principles of Educational Technology. This two-day workshop aimed to empower health care professionals and trainers with the various teaching skills necessary to educate and motivate diabetic patients to improve their lifestyle and make informed choices about their diabetes. This followed a series of very successful workshops that were conducted in Egypt, Syria, Qatar, Kuwait, Yemen, Jordan, Libya, and Sudan during the past two years. We have made the workshop material available on our website, in both English and Arabic; have a look:

Now for the big surprise, the fruit of our project; we would like to announce The First BA Regional Workshop on the Epidemiology of Diabetes & Other Non-Communicable Diseases. This is a joint event between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina  and the WHO Collaborating Centre in Pittsburgh and supported by the World Diabetes Foundation. The training course will be held from 5-13 January 2009 and will discuss the different non-communicable diseases we face today. For more information about the workshop topics, program and registration, please click here.

If you are a diabetes educator, a professor, or a dietician, you get a chance to educate about diabetes almost every day. Is there a topic that you would like to know more about? Or look up material about the epidemiology of diabetes in another country? Well then, please take the time to view the group of lectures we have online or contact us to receive the first 100 lectures on CDs. We want those CDs in every university and diabetes related organization in the MENA Region! To get the CDs, please contact Fayrouz.Ashour@bibalex.org. We would like to remind you that this CD is a gift that is meant to be given, meaning that we would like to ask those of you who will receive it to distribute the CDs to at least five others.

Please pass this on to your friends!

Thanks,

Diabetes Supercourse Team
