“Discover and Express Exhibition”

3/7/2008

The Taha Hussein Library invites you to attend “Discover & Express Exhibition”. The event will take place on the 7th of July at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, from 11:30am to 2:00pm.

The exhibition is held to display the artwork produced during the Workshop “Discover & Express”. The workshop, which lasted for six months, was designed to familiarize blind students to the surrounding environment and help them express it through art.

The Taha Hussein Library adopts an outreach program which aims at teaching blind and visually impaired children ways to discover the world around them and express themselves through creative arts. The program consists of a series of workshops targeting children in grades 1 and 2 in El Nour School for Blind Children. This Art Education program provides various teaching techniques and uses of materials such as argil, clay and special painting boards. These tools enable these children to express themselves.

The sessions include examining and touching different shapes such as fruits, and then learning how to draw three-dimensional objects on flat sheet while using a special board that provides raised lines so that the children would get a tactile picture. During the sessions the children also discover the features of the human face by touching each other’s face and then mold these faces using clay.
