The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is hosting the 4th annual meeting of the European Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Users Group (EDUG) and the symposium “Bridging the Class[ification] Divide: The New DDC languages and retrieval possibilities” held April 26- 27, 2010, in Alexandria, Egypt.
Over the past ten years, extensive translation projects have been completed in Europe to produce the French, Italian and German editions of the DDC21 and DDC22. Experience has shown that the translation and adaptation of the DDC in the European context can be difficult and recently it has shown difficulty in Arabic.
EDUG works in partnership with OCLC to foster cooperation in the development of DDC translations.
