We have seen in these and other smaller studies that the PEG-IFN results in SVR rates comparable to those achieved by standard IFN and RBV combination. The next obvious step is to find out if the PEG + RBV combination would be superior to Peg alone, as the standard IFN + RBV combination was superior to standard IFN alone. Michael Fried has presented this data recently which supports out intuition about this. Well over a 1000 patients were studied in this randomized, placebo controlled comparison, where patients received Pegasys + RBV, Pegasys alone or the standard Rebetron. The groups were well matched for their baseline characteristics.
