Inflammation is usually quite apparent in old dog encephalitis with highly inflammatory lesions.
Perivascular lymphoplasmacytic infiltration in areas of demyelination and neuronal degeneration are seen with sclerosing panencephalitis often with virus inclusion bodies in epithelial and other cells. The long-term prognosis is poor.
