We looked at some evidence of that. Xanthine Oxidase/Dehydrogenase is an enzyme that’s important in generating free radicals. It exists in two forms. One, where it just makes NADH and uric acid, but the other is the generator of the free radicals and peroxide. Oxidative stress occurs when you have lots of free radicals around. The idea is that in certain settings, like hypoxia, this enzyme increases but is preferentially in this form that makes Xanthine Oxidase.
