We’ve looked in the placenta of preeclamptic women. This is from basal cytotropoblasts in a normal pregnancy. On the left is cytokeratin and the other stain is Xanthine Oxidase. You’ll see that normally the hypoxia induced enzyme is not present, but it is present in preeclampsia.
