Egypt ’s Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), the new Library of Alexandria, was inaugurated in 2002 to recapture the spirit of the ancient Library of Alexandria, a center of world learning from 300 BC to 400 AD. The new Library and its affiliated research centers are devoted to using the newest technology to preserve the past and to promote access to the products of the human intellect. UNL BookThe International School of Information Science (ISIS) research institute was founded in order to maximize creativity and foster innovations within the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA). Guided by BA goals to:


• preserve the heritage for future generations in digital form; and
• provide universal access to human knowledge

ISIS acts as an incubator for digital and technological projects, promoting and nurturing innovations whose goals encompass the spirit of the BA’s mission.

UNL BookThe Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) is an autonomous regional Pan-Arab development finance organization, ("the Fund"). Its membership consists of all states who are members of the League of Arab States. The AFESD is an Arab regional financial institution, having an independent juridical personality. Its function is to assist the economic and social development of Arab countries through (1) financing development projects, with preference given to overall Arab development and to joint Arab projects; (2) encouraging the investment of private and public funds in Arab projects; and (3) providing technical assistance services for Arab economic and social development.
