The aim of the Archaeo Delta project is to document archaeological excavations and sites in the Egyptian delta in a brand new context. It will be a combination and mixture of archaeology and landscape. Archaeology and the current landscape is by nature linked together. One of the major aims with the Archaeo Delta Art Project is to document archaeological sites in the Alexandria’s hinterland and the Egyptian western delta. The delta has many new sites which has never been proper documented. Other sites in Egypt will also be incorporated in the project!

This lecture is presenting the recent discoveries of the German Archaeological mission working in middle Egypt at the Ptolemaic temple of Athribi. The lecture will focus on the archaeological and topographical aspects of the work beside the new di...scovered inscriptions on the walls of the temple. Marcus Muller, the field director of the mission will be presenting the work on behave of the team of Tübingen University.

The Lecture deals with the excavations of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo and its cooperation partner, the Swiss Institute for Architecture and Archaeological Research on Ancient Egypt, on Elephantine Island in Aswan took place since1969. The investigations of the afore mentioned institutes, since gaining concession from the Supreme Council of Antiquities, concentrated mainly on the development of the architectural ground plans of the settlement as well as the study of the temples of Khnum and Satet.

The workshop deals with the different aspects of Alexandria's Hinterland: Archaeology, history and topography of the Hellenistic Roman sites in Beheira. Three papers will discuss the recent works of the Italian mission in Beheira, while other speakers discuss the different discoveries in major sites and the relationship between Beheira and Alexandria in antiquity.
