KIT Dossier Branding for development

Last update: Wednesday 30 November 2011

Branding is highlighted as a specific topic within the broader theme of the Value Chains for Development (VC4D) portal.

Branding is a powerful tool to add value to products and capture markets. Some of the world’s largest companies are successful precisely because of their branding capacities. Branding, however, is not easily associated with small farmers in the developing world. In this dossier we will show examples of small producers who have utilized the full potential of branding as a tool to increase sales margins and thereby income for small producers.

KIT recently started a programme that aims to develop knowledge about the usage of branding for the development of Small & Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs) and organizations of small farmers in developing countries. This dossier informs you about KIT’s activities on branding for development. Under KIT’s involvement the latest developments are described. Links to related KIT programmes can also be found here. For an update of your knowledge on branding we refer to the in-depth section. Within the Resources of the dossier you will find audio-visual materials, documents, websites and library queries related to branding for development, a major part of which you will find in the Value Chains for development (VC4D) portal as well. A glossary with often used terms and definitions related to branding is presented under the specific heading within this dossier. Please have a look at the VC4D portal for up-to-date news and events on the topic.
