Prof. Abdel Kader received his Ph.D. in Photochemistry at Stuttgart University, Germany in 1979. He got a post-doctoral position at University of Karlsruhe in Germany, from 1982 to 1983. From 1983 to 1984, he was a Senior Researcher at the Federal Institute of Technology, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. He was a Visiting Professor at both Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA and the Institute for Laser Technology in Medicine and Metrology, Ulm University in Germany. In addition, he was Seconded to the Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain from 1985 to 1992, and to the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain from 1992 to 1995.
Prof. Mahmoud established a pioneering research school, since he has supervised more than 100 master's and PhD theses. He has published 103 peer-reviewed papers and authored a specialized book on "Photodynamic Therapy" with the international publisher Springer. He also holds 11 internationally and locally registered patents, focusing on the applications of nanotechnology, laser technology, and solar radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors, as well as in combating epidemics such as malaria, filariasis, dengue fever, and bilharzia in Nile Basin countries, in addition to treating anemia with a single dose.
He has received the highest honors and awards, most notably the Nile Prize in Advanced Technological Sciences, 2023, the first-class Medal of the President of the Republic of Egypt in Science and Arts, 2017, and an honorary doctorate from the University of East London, 2024. He has also been awarded the State Appreciation and Encouragement Awards, the First-Class Medal of Excellence, and was elected as a permanent member of the Scientific Institute of Egypt.
تدرج في الوظائف الجامعية من درجة معيد إلى أستاذ، وحصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة شتوتجارت عام 1979 وكان عضو المهمة العلمية إلى مركز الأبحاث النووية وجامعة كارلسروها بألمانيا من عام1982إلى 1983، وكذلك بالمعهد الفيدرالي للتكنولوجيا بسويسرا من 1983 إلى 1984 وشغل منصب أستاذ زائر في كل من: معهد جورجيا للتكنولوجيا بأطلانطا بالولايات المتحدة ومعهد تكنولوجيا الليزر في الطب والقياسات بجامعة أولم بألمانيا. كما تمت إعارته لجامعة الخليج العربي بالبحرين من 1985 - 1992 وكذلك جامعة الامارات العربية المتحدة بالعين من 1992 – 1995.
أسس الدكتور محمود مدرسة بحثية رائدة، حيث أشرف على أكثر من 100 رسالة ماجستير ودكتوراه، ونشر 103 بحثاً محكماً وكتاباً متخصصاً عن "العلاج الضوئي الديناميكي" فى دار النشر العالمية "Springer". كما يمتلك 11 براءة اختراع مسجلة دوليا ومحليا، تتركز حول تطبيقات تكنولوجيا النانو والليزر وأشعة الشمس في تشخيص وعلاج الأورام الخبيثة، ومكافحة الأوبئة كالملاريا والفلاريا وحمى الضنك والبلهارسيا في دول حوض النيل، وعلاج الأنيميا بجرعة واحدة.
نال أرفع الأوسمة والجوائز، أبرزها "جائزة النيل في العلوم التكنولوجية المتقدمة" (2023)، و"وسام الجمهورية في العلوم والفنون من الطبقة الأولى" (2017)، والدكتوراه الفخرية من جامعة شرق لندن (2024). كما كُرّم بجوائز الدولة التقديرية والتشجيعية، ونوط الامتياز من الطبقة الأولى، واختير عضواً دائماً مدى الحياة بالمجمع العلمي المصري.
