Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

In continuation of its role in promoting science and technology in the region, the CSSP, in collaboration with The German Academic Exchange Service through the DAAD Kairo Akademie, is organizing the "Research Guidelines Training Program" which is a program that supports outstanding young researchers who undertaking scientific research approaches across the science and technology spectrum.

The Micro Research Grants call For Applications

The Micro Research Grants call for applications

To ensure the fair competition between applicants and to give all interested students the opportunity to apply for the Micro Research Grants, the deadline for the 2012 application has been extended till 30 September 2012.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is offering the Second Round grant for the "Micro Research Grant program" for Egyptian school students seeking funds to finance innovative ideas in one of the following fields:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Engineering
  • Environment
  • Information Technology
  • Materials Science
  • Physics

TWAS-ARO Young Arab Scientist (YAS) Prize 2012
Sustainable Management of Water Resources in the Arab Region

Knowing the scarcity of water in the Arab region and the problems that the region will face in the future in case no new efficient and effective techniques were developed in the field of water resources management, TWAS-ARO has chosen the theme of “ Sustainable Management of Water Resources in the Arab Region” for the Young Arab Scientist (YAS) Prize for the year 2012.

The prize will be awarded to one young scientist from the Arab region who conducted innovative and pioneer research on water resources management in the Middle East, covering topics such as:

  • Outstanding achievements in the construction or improvement of water and waste disposal projects, serving the financially needy communities in developing countries.
  • The impact of climate change on water scarcity in North Africa and the Middle East.
  • Lowering the cost of desalination technology and working in new techniques to make the process of resolving long term water scarcity in the Middle East and North Africa more affordable.

The value of the prize is: 3,000 USD.

A signed, stamped official nomination letter should be sent along with the nomination form, the applicant’s CV, and a list of publications to both the address and emails shown below.

Registration for BioVision.Nxt 2013 is Now Open

The World Life Sciences Forum, BioVision, invites 100 promising PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to attend the 3-day forum, BioVision.Nxt, which will be held on 24–26 March in Lyon, France.

The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) will partially cover the travel expenses of 50 distinguished young scientists, to attend this high-profile event. Each of the TWAS Regional Offices will select 10 eligible young scientists, in the field of life sciences, from the region. The young scientists selected from the Arab Region will be partially sponsored by TWAS-Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO). Priority will be given to first-time applicants.

BioVision.Nxt aims to provide a unique opportunity for young scientists from developing countries to interact with some of the world's leading life scientists. It also aims at fostering dialogue on the impact of life sciences future developments on society in both the Western world and developing countries.

Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.

This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: public health, agriculture, computer engineering, and environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

Islamic Development Bank Prizes for Science and Technology

Islamic Development Bank Prizes for Science and Technology,
11th Edition (1434H-2013G)
 

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) announces the eleventh edition of its Prizes for Science and Technology (1434H-2013G).

These prizes are annually awarded to institutions in IDB Member Countries in the following three categories:

  • Category-1: Outstanding scientific or technological contribution to the socio-economic development of a member country.
  • Category-2: Outstanding contribution to any of the scientific disciplines of engineering, agriculture, medicine, biotechnology, information technology, optronics, material sciences, pharmaceutical, industrial microelectronics, nanotechnology and alternative energy sources.
  • Category-3: Noted scientific research institutions in IDB least developed member countries (LDMCs).

Each winner receives a cash reward of USD 100,000 along with a trophy and a certificate.
