Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. TWAS Regional Prize 2013: Call for Nomination

Deadline for Nomination: 1 April 2013.

This year’s theme is Public Understanding and Popularization of Science.

TWAS Regional Prizes 2013 will be awarded in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to popularize science, and have developed new strategies that serve the popularization of science and technology in developing countries.

Each TWAS Regional Prize winner will receive a USD 3,000 cash award.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates for a TWAS-ARO Prize must be scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least ten years. They must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

  • Scientific research achievement of outstanding significance for the development of scientific thought.
  • Outstanding contribution to the application of Science and Technology to industry or to human well-being in a developing country.

The nominations will only be accepted and valid from:

  1. Members of TWAS-ARO (www.bibalex.org/twasaro/members/list.htm).
  2. Science Academies, National Research Councils, Universities, Scientific Institutions from the Arab Region.  

Note: Self nominations are not allowed.

A signed, stamped official nomination letter should be sent along with the nomination form, CV and list of publications to israa.elfayoumi@bibalex.org; copying: twas.aro@bibalex.org, before 1 April 2013.

TWAS-ARO Young Affiliates 2013-2017

TWAS-ARO Young Affiliates 2013-2017

Nomination deadline: 1 April 2013.

Every year, each of the five TWAS Regional Offices selects up to five scientists to be "TWAS Young Affiliates" for a period of five years. During their tenure, affiliates are invited to participate in TWAS general meetings and conferences.
 
This program, which began in 2007, seeks to identify the best young scientists in each region of the developing world and provide them with opportunities to network with one another, and with TWAS Fellows, as well as attend international conferences and other events for young scientists.

The appointments are made for a period of five years (covering five TWAS General Meetings).

TWAS Young Affiliates eligibility criteria:

  1. Less than 40 years old by January 2013.
  2. Native of a developing country from the Arab Region.
  3. Has at least 10 international publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  4. Has lived and worked in a developing country for at least the past three years.

Nominations will only be accepted and valid from:

  1. Members of TWAS-ARO (www.bibalex.org/twasaro/members/list.htm).
  2. Science academies, national research councils, universities, scientific institutions and individual scientists from the Arab region.

  • Are you looking for a grant to support your research?
  • Have earned your PhD within the past five years (following December 2007) in the field of life sciences or expect to earn it by December 2013?
  • Are you a young researcher under the age of 35 years by January 2013?
  • Are you affiliated to a public/private academic or research institution in Egypt?
  • Are you willing to conduct your research in Egypt?
  • Are you currently engaged or can arrange to work on a joint research project with foreign counterpart(s) at a university or research center abroad?

If the answer to the previous questions is “YES”, then apply to BA/CSSP Research Grants 2013

Research Grants program was established at 2004 to support outstanding young postdoctoral Egyptian researchers who perform cutting edge research and undertake collaborative investigation approaches across the science and technology spectrum, by offering them postdoctoral research grants as well as help them establish connections with Egyptian and international scientists as well as researchers.

The program covers research in Natural sciences, Mathematics, Information Technology, and Pre-University Education. The maximum duration of the project is two years and the maximum budget that can be granted is 75,000 EGP. The grants are totally financed by the BA. Online blind review process by eminent scientist from different countries all over the world is used to evaluate online submitted proposals.

Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.SSC Website

This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: Public Health, Agriculture, Computer Engineering, and Environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

 Get Involved!

The SSC is based on involving the community and encouraging professors and experts to participate by adding their own lectures to the website for the benefit of students and teachers everywhere.

If you are a Professor of Agriculture, Computer Engineering, Health or Environmental Health, be part of the SSC and upload your lectures.
