Sample
size is a big problem in epidemiology. There are many equations to
determine sample size; however, the data required to do the calculations is
often unavailable. Other times, the sample size determined using an
equation might be impossible to obtain! You must always try calculating
the sample size required for your study. Many times, researchers calculate
the power of the test after the study is concluded to determine whether or
not the results found could be due to inappropriate sample size.
