In follow up or prospective studies, exposed and non-exposed animals are
followed up to determine disease occurrence. A
cohort
study is a
prospective study. If the exposure and outcome have already occurred but
you are sampling on exposure, then you are still conducting a prospective
study. These studies are also known as "retrospective" cohorts. Confused?
Just remember that sampling on exposure is the most important
characteristic of a prospective study.
