Although the Concept Dictionary
was developed specifically for researchers analyzing Manitoba data, much of the content
can be easily adapted for use with administrative data elsewhere. The Dictionary approach promises to be particularly useful for the complex linked-record systems of other Canadian provinces, Western Australia and the United Kingdom.14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 In addition to linkage of United States federal data such as Veterans Affairs, Medicare, and Medicaid files, and the National Death Index,20, 21, 22, 23 linkage has enriched other files including tumor registries, vital records, and hospital discharge abstracts for newborns.24, 25, 26 Keeping track of concepts and algorithms generated for these files suggests the importance of a concept dictionary approach. |
