Texts and Garbs: The Place of Textiles and Garments in Ptolemaic Egyptian Textual Culture

In contrast to other ancient cultures, ancient Egypt was a culture in which the written word had a central place. Egypt was also known as a country of textile manufacturers, especially of linen fabrics and garments. The lecture considers the textual evidence from Ptolemaic times reflecting the role of textiles and garments in the economic and social life of Ptolemaic Egyptians.
