BA in the “Capital of African Culture”
03 Feb 2019

This workshop matched with choosing 2019 as the year of Africa in Egypt, and choosing Aswan, as the African Capital of Culture 2019, where the workshop of the Meroitic inscriptions was one of the activities aimed at strengthening cultural and academic relations between Egypt and African countries. The film "The Journey of Writing in Egypt" was also screened, which traces the history of the various writings that appeared on the land of Egypt from prehistoric times until modern times. The participants conducted several field visits to read and analyze the irrigated inscriptions in both the temples of Kalabsha and the temple of Phila, as well as the Nubian Museum in Aswan, under the supervision of Dr. Claude Riley, Professor of the irrigated studies at the Sorbonne and the director of the French Antiquities Mission in Sanaqa, Sudan.

The center organized this workshop to communicate effectively with researchers and those interested in ancient languages and scripts in different geographical areas. In this regard, the Center, in cooperation with the Embassies of Knowledge, organized two lectures at the Embassy of Knowledge in Aswan, for students and researchers of Aswan to introduce the various library projects.
