The BA BoT Meets Today under the Chairmanship of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi at Al-Ittihadiya Palace

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi received today the BA Board of Trustees, which includes a host of prominent Egyptian and international figures, namely Dr. Magdi Yacoub; Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, former Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation; Ms. Louise Moushikiwabo, Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie; Mr. Miguel Moratinos, the UN Under-Secretary-General and its High-Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations; Dr. Mohamed Benaissa, former Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Culture; Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center in Bahrain; Ms. Amina Mohammed, former Kenyan Minister of Culture; Ms. Samia Nkrumah; Dr. Moufid Shehab; Eng. Hani Azer; and Mr. Mohamed Salmawy, President of the Egyptian Writers Union, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the President welcomed the board members, stressing the importance of the valuable role played by the Library in the dissemination and deepening of knowledge and science, and in the encouragement of reading, research, and cultural work, in a way that supports dialogue among civilizations and strengthens common understanding and coexistence among peoples. He also noted that the recognition of the importance and richness of human diversity and the consecration of the principles of citizenship are the basis for the protection of the social fabric, thus stressing the Library’s need to complete the mission led by Egypt in building bridges between cultures and securing peace and development.

The President stressed the country’s commitment to providing innovative ideas and activities, and works towards deepening scientific and cultural interests among young people, while practically enabling them to assume future responsibilities through the simplification of science using innovative technological methods. He also emphasized the country’s support of a culture of creativity and innovation at the scientific, technical, and artistic levels, as it strives to discover talented children and young people, create knowledge, and reinforce the relationship between scientific research and technical development, while focusing on the consolidation of the Egyptian identity through the Library's various programs. He pointed to the state's keenness to provide full support for all cultural projects aimed at innovative and effective visions to support youth and young people.

For their part, the members of the Board of Trustees appreciated the continuous support they receive from the State to ensure that the Library plays its historical cultural role, praising the attention paid by the President to the Library's work, and in this context they presented their visions regarding the different roles that the Library can play to achieve its goals as a window for Egypt to the world and a window to the world on Egypt and its rich culture and extended history.

The meeting also witnessed an open discussion on the international and regional situation, as the Board of Trustees praised the pivotal role played by Egypt to restore stability in the region, end the war in Gaza, and bring humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip. The President affirmed Egypt's keenness to put an end to the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip and  continue its positive contribution to help settle the crises in the region, stressing that consolidating a culture of peace is an essential element for a more stable and secure future for the region and the world at large.
