The Bibliotheca Alexandrina concludes the Egyptian Handicrafts Festival

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina concluded the events of the Egyptian Handicrafts Festival, yesterday 18 of September 2015. The event was organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, co-funded by the European Union, and was held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina plaza

Implemented under the Mapping activity; one of the main activities under the program, which aims to map and consolidate the existing cultural operators all over Egypt, the event sought to encompass a variety of the Egyptian crafts; bringing to light traditional art forms on the verge of extinction as well as unknown and new ones. The event also sought to connect with artisans and provide them with the opportunity to showcase their work, whilst also providing them with the media coverage they need. Covering a vast number of governorates and villages, the festival managed to exhibit various samples of handmade art from different geographical regions of Egypt.

The festival was inaugurated by Engr. Hoda El-Mikaty, Director of the program and Head of the Cultural Outreach Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, on September 16, and ran over a period of three days between 16-18 September.

Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt is a joint program between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the European Union. It aims at broadening the scope of cultural projects in Egypt, and to promote artistic and cultural education. It also seeks to use the rich cultural heritage of Egypt and human capital to benefit from arts and culture as a strong support element to the development of the country. The program started in November 2013 and is expected to conclude in November of this year.
