Honoring the Late Semiologist Algirdas J. Greimas

On the occasion of the Month of the Francophone, the Lithuanian Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the BA Francophone Library, holds on Wednesday, 20 March 2013, an event in commemoration of the late Lithuanian Semiologists Algirdas J. Greimas entitled “Algirdas J. Greimas in Alexandria (1949- 1958)”.

Greimas (1917- 1992) is a francophone Semiologist and Linguist from Lithuanian origins who founded Structural Semiotics. He lived in Alexandria between 1949 and 1958 where he taught the history of French language at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University. He lived a rich life and travelled to several countries until he died in Paris. He has several publications including Structural Semantics (1966) and On Meaning (1970).

The Event starts at 5:00 pm at the BACC Delegates Hall, and is held in French.
