BA Takes Part in Arab Launch of Virtual Museum “Sharing History”

On Wednesday, 20 May 2015, the BA took part in the Arab launch of the virtual museum Sharing History, which was hosted by the Sharjah Maritime Museum. The BA is taking part in this international project in cooperation with Museums With No Frontiers.
The project aims to promote cultural dialogue through the exchange of arts and heritage. Numerous experts from 22 countries, from the Arab world, Turkey, and Europe, are working together to present different viewpoints of their shared histories while making sure that learning about these shared histories is both enjoyable and educational.
The Museums With No Frontiers (MWNF) program is a virtual platform that hosts museum exhibitions online. It includes a comprehensive database with information about thousands of antiquities. It allows registered users to create personalized collections and “curate” their own exhibitions. The Sharing History project is the latest project undertaken by the MWNF program and it aims to explore the Arab-Ottoman-European relations during 1815–1918, which is considered an important historical period that still affects modern international relations.
The Sharing History website contains ten different exhibitions which include historical images, artworks, and handmade crafts within a database that contains information about 3,000 displayed art pieces. This project is a result of a two-year cooperation between Arab, Turkish, and European experts who have exerted a lot of effort in researching and analyzing their common history.
