Developing the Origins: Festival of Egyptian Professions

Following the success of the first round of the Festival of Egyptian Professions, organized by the BA Center for Francophone Cultural Activities in October 2014, and in keeping with the BA goal to support francophone cultural activities and focusing on the positive role played by traditional professions in developing societies, the BA Center for Francophone Cultural Activities is now organizing the second round of the festival from 11 to 13 October 2015. The festival will be held under the theme “Developing the Origins” with Senegal as a guest of honor in an effort to strengthen cultural ties between both countries. The event will be held in the BA Plaza.
The three-day festival will include workshops for Egyptian and Senegalese craftsmen, traditional Egyptian food for sale, concerts for J-Z Djohar and the Ganoub El-Wadi Troupe for Nubian and African Dance, and a poetic musical night “Asdaf Sakandrya”—a French diwan by great Egyptian-Canadian author Mona Latif-Ghattas who will recite a few passages herself along with Paul Antaki. The poetry session will be accompanied by Cairo Orchestra String Quartet, led by Dr. Otham el-Mahdy.
The festival will also include several workshops for francophone school students in Alexandria so that they can acquire handiwork skills and an appreciation for the value of handicrafts.
The festival is supported and promoted by a select group of sponsors, including the Ministry of Tourism, Fair Trade Egypt, the French Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, the Egyptian Junior Business Association’s “Work” Initiative, Al-Adham Co. for Smart Cars, Al Ahram Hebdo, the Craftsmen Association of Senegal, and the Nadar Arts Foundation in San Louis, Senegal.
