Introduction to Roman Culture

This course aims to introduce the Roman culture as a whole. It begins with the geopolitical background of the Roman civilization, concentrating as well on the Hellenistic elements as an essential basis of Roman culture. Consequently Roman culture inherited Hellenism and bequeathed it to modern times.Together, he Greek and Roman cultures are correlative and form the Classical Heritage. Students will be able to draw a connection between Greek and Roman cultures and discover the meaning of Classical Heritage. They will learn how Rome became a bridge linking Hellenism to modern Europe and in what way Roman history is a source of inspiration in modern times in the fields of politics, literature and the arts.
