Religions in the Hellenistic Period

Diploma

Elective

Objective: The main aim of this course is to study the differences and overlaps between religious beliefs in the Hellenistic era

Content: The course deals with the religions and deities in Greece, and the eastern religions, especially the Egyptian ones, as it retained its traditions since the Dynastic era on the one hand, and was influenced by the new Hellenistic image on the other hand, which gave the Egyptian religion huge popularity throughout the Greek and Roman world. Isis - Serapis - Harpocrates - Zeus Amon - and other gods will also be studied. These different aspects of a single religion are a perfect example of the Hellenistic culture.
