Ship Building in Hellenistic Alexandria

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Dr.Sahar Hamouda, Director of The Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies cordially invite you to attend the lecture Ship Building in Hellenistic Alexandria by Harry Tzalas. The lecture will be given Friday, 17 April 2009, 6:00 pm in the  Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center

Harry Tzalas, author of Farewell to Alexandria  and Seven Days at the Cecil is scheduled to give a leture on a subject Alexandria Ship Construction during the Ptolemaic times and what came after. He has studied this subject for years and built a full scale replica of a Hellenistic Age ship by duplicating the hull of the Ship of Kyrenia which was built in circa 350 BC and sank in  circa 302 BC on the Sea Route between Alexandria and the Levant.This was the trade route that existed between Alexandria and the vast kingdom of the Ptolemies at the time.
